Change the language of subtitles in YouTube
Do you use YouTube whilst learning or teaching? If the video owner has provided Welsh subtitles on YouTube, it’s easy to find them.
Go to the settings symbol at the bottom of the screen and select ‘Subtitles/CC’. If Welsh subtitles have been provided, you’ll be able to change the subtitle language to ‘Cymraeg’.
It is possible to have Welsh subtitles that have been automatically generated on videos in other languages too. In the same way as Microsoft Bing, the translation is not always perfect but it can help to Welshify the learner's experience when showing an English video. Automatic subtitles are available in Welsh on desktop computers only.

Creating bilingual forms in Microsoft
Have you thought about creating a bilingual quiz? Â One form to suit all where the learner can read and write using their first language? Excellent idea!
Using the Welsh side by side with the English means that you’re promoting bilingualism.
If you’re not confident writing in Welsh, use Bing Translator as a guide.

Split screen
Split screen allows you to show two live windows on the screen at the same time. A resource available in Welsh and English could be shown side by side to make an effective and simple bilingual presentation. Every College in Wales has a ‘dual login’ to enable them to access Hwb, Welsh Government’s digital learning platform. Firstly, you’ll need to log in to your College intranet. Then search for Hwb. Click on the icon and then the website will open and you will be logged in automatically.
You can create a bilingual playlist easily on Hwb. Here are some instructions on the website to help you with this.

Voice typing and translate video
The dictation tool allows you to write content in either Microsoft Word or Google Docs. By combining voice typing with the translation tool you can quickly create bilingual documents. You will need a device with a microphone and a reliable internet connection. It will work on mobile, tablet or Desktop too.
